Diego and Inga Vintimilla are the co-founders of From Words to Wings
The program began with 600 donated children’s books in English and Spanish, a family move to Ecuador and a desire to make reading fun!
Diego was born and raised in Cuenca, Ecuador. After high school he moved to the United States where he graduated from college in California and embarked on a career in international business. He has traveled throughout Latin America and has especially enjoyed market development and supporting small business owners.
Inga was born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts. She travelled to Cuenca, Ecuador for the first time when she was 17. She graduated from college in California and her career has focused on many areas of education. She has especially enjoyed working with teachers and parents to develop early literacy skills for Spanish speaking children.
As the parents of two young children Inga and Diego have seen the important role that access to books has played in the life of their own children and their process of learning to read. When the family planned to move to Ecuador, they were struck with the lack of libraries and the need for books in local schools. Thanks to the generosity of friends and family 600 books were donated to start what would develop into the library and literacy program “From Words to Wings.”
